Art practice and biography

Nina Helledie is a Danish visual artist who grew up in a small town called Stavtrup. She grew up and lived in an old dance restaurant which had been transformed into a collective living comunity. At the age of 6, she started her artistic education at a school called Århus Friskole. The school which was renowned for music education, focused on artistic freedom and creation.

The 15 June Foundation's honorary award

In 2019 Nina Helledie received the 15 June Foundation's honorary award.

The purpose of the foundation reflects the founders' great interest in art and culture, research and education, as well as their humanitarian and social commitment and joy to Danish nature.

The jury consisted of Louisiana Museum Inspector: Anders Kold, Visual Artist: Claus Carstensen and Art Critic and Writer: Mai Misfeldt.

Abstract method

Helledie has over the last 13 years developed an abstract method with dots, she has through the 13 years continuously produced works and further developed the method. it has been a common thread throughout her artistic practice. The works are created through repetition, intuition, rhythm, vibrations and in an interplay between internal and external movementsand. And is saturated underdevelopment and production

Artistic research

Helledie started a research project as her 4 year project, which ended with her taking an education as a body therapist in parallel with her studies at the art academy. Helledie wanted a deeper knowledge and understanding of the many themes she works with in her practice. The education has given her a great understanding of the body and it’s connection with the mind, the built environment and nature; and how they both impact on each other.
